Resource Person for Preaching
Dr. Tull has extensive experience in preaching (37 years of full-time ministry) and also wide-ranging training and academic work. He received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Perkins School of Theology. He was selected as one of the two United Methodist from the North Texas Conference to be a part of a three-year program entitled the “Academy of Preaching,†held in Nashville and in the Holy Land. In 2007 he was hired by the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church to teach preaching to course of study pastors in the Texas and Oklahoma area, a position he has filled six times.
In 2015, Dr. Tull created his own preaching textbook (Vital Preaching: The Art of Sharing God’s Word), drawing from his doctorate and the extensive reading he did in preparation for teaching preaching. In addition to the regional preaching course, Dr. Tull also led two preaching seminars offered through the Dallas Pastoral Counseling Center, Dallas, Texas. Tull’s preaching repertoire draws heavily from current preaching literature with particular emphasis on the writing of Dr. Fred Craddock, his preaching mentor.
